Humphrey Barclay

One of the UK’s most innovative and award-winning producers of television comedy. Most recently, with Moira Williams, he produced two series of BBC1 romantic comedy HOLD THE SUNSET, starring Alison Steadman, John Cleese and Jason Watkins.  As producer and then Head of Comedy at LWT, Humphrey produced classics such as Michael Palin and Terry Jones’ THE COMPLETE AND UTTER HISTORY OF BRITAIN, DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE, HARK AT BARKER, NO-HONESTLY, A FINE ROMANCE, TWO’S COMPANY, AGONY, METAL MICKEY, THE TOP SECRET LIFE OF EDGAR BRIGGS, WHOOPS APOCALYPSE and NO PROBLEM! Later, as Controller, he initiated SPACED. In between, he ran Humphrey Barclay Productions, creating Marks and Gran’s RELATIVE STRANGERS (C4’s highest ever rating sitcom), HOT METAL, SURGICAL SPIRIT, (Emma) THOMPSON, UP THE GARDEN PATH and DESMOND’S. From 2004-2006 he was Development Executive for Celador Productions, and in 2014 he returned to TV full-time to produce the second and third series of BIRDS OF A FEATHER and the revival of GOODNIGHT SWEETHEART for Retort/ITV.
