New Writers

JFL are always on the lookout for new and exciting talent, and currently support the following as-yet-unestablished writers:

ROSALIND ADLER – Rosalind's stage play BETWEEN FRIENDS has director Joe Harmston attached, and she starred in her own award-winning one-woman stage plays, LOL and JUBILATE! (2006). She has written HOLY FOOL, a full-length play about Dmitri Shostakovich, and her first screenplay for television, FALLING, was recently given a reading with Maureen Beattie and Ruthie Henshall. Ros currently has a sitcom, BABY BOOMERS, available, and she is co-writing a drama series, FASHIONISTA SISTERS.

DYLAN COSTELLO – Dylan writes for film, TV and theatre. His debut movie CORONADO is currently in pre-production in Hollywood with Fred Roos (The Godfather, Lost In Translation) exec producing. Dylan is also one half of new fringe theatre production company Act 1 Productions, through which he is writing and producing a slate of plays and comedy shows beginning in 2010. He also wrote the script for a short climate change film that was shown at the Copenhagen Climate Change Summit in December 2009.

MICHAEL JONES
– Michael has worked in a variety of industry jobs, edit producing for shows as diverse as CBBC’s CLUTTER NUTTERS to E4’s SEX IN COURT, and writing for 2DTV, Dara O’Briain and PARSONS AND NAYLOR, along with being Gloria Hunniford’s personal scriptwriter. He has recently written HONEYS, a TV drama pilot, and had a radio play developed with Celador Productions. He is currently writing a new TV drama, and would like to cut his teeth on continuing drama series.

STEPHEN LISTER – Stephen began his writing career with two episodes of THE PROFESSIONALS when he was 19, and, after meeting two Cardiff entrepreneurs who wanted to make feature films, wrote five movies including XTRO 2, SHADOWCHASER and MONOLITH, which on-the-job training took him from Pinewood to Hollywood. He enjoys breathing life into other people’s ideas as well as generating his own. He writes in a variety of genres and styles – drama, action, sci-fi, horror, western, comedy, and any combination of the above.

RODERICK O’GRADY – Before turning to writing, Roderick worked as an actor in the UK and abroad, appearing in New York as the hapless Dr Grodin in the daytime soap AS THE WORLD TURNS. On returning to London he wrote and appeared in the very biographical comedy A FOOLISH FANCY (How not to get ahead in theatre), which was Time Out’s Critics’ Choice. His screenplays include VALENTINE (romantic comedy adventure set in England and France), THE RIDING OFFICER (about West Country smugglers) and ALBERTOPOLIS (a modern romance intercut with a plot to assassinate Queen Victoria).

DAVID TURNER – David has had two comedy features optioned, and was commissioned to write a sitcom for It’s Alright Ma Productions. His comedy drama IS THIS MUSIC? was developed for a TAPS showcase, and earned him a runner-up place in the 2009 Red Planet Screenwriting Contest. David has recently developed STUCK BETWEEN STATIONS, a comedy set in the world of finance, and a sitcom about the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, imaginatively titled FOUR HORSEMEN. He is currently working on a comedy about trying to be rock ’n’ roll when you’re thirty-something, and writes the popular Army Of Dave website.

JIM VANDERPUMP – Jim is a young comedy writer whose sitcom scripts have received interest from the BBC and Channel 4, and is a name to watch. His sitcom scripts demonstrate an individual style, and his observational, naturalistic humour runs through his writing for TV, film and radio. He has recently written sketches for a performing comedy troupe.
